I just wanted everyone to know I will no longer be posting on Onlyinkorea87 anymore. I’ve appreciated your readership over the past two years. You’ve been great, but it’s time to move on. Now that I’m living in D.C., I have a blog devoted to my happenings there.

Managing Everything: Two Internships, a TEFL-C and Ongoing Job Search

So, it’s been a while. My latest project is completing the TEFL-C online. It’s a mandatory part of the teaching job I was offered in China (specifically Beijing). I have 17 more modules to go and should be finished on November 6th! For me, its manageable goal and I’m looking forward to the end. I’m learning a ton about teaching and that’s always a big plus.

Among finishing the TEFL-C, I’m trying to find my professional niche via my internships at a publishing company and education website. So far, I’ve found out what I want my passion blog to be about, but still have to finish up an article about a Japanese magazine.

On Sunday, I’m going to meet up with an anime group in Alexandria, they’ll help me with the article I’m writing.

On top of the list of things I have to do, I’m also trying to find a part-time job. Living without a source of income has become rough. My goal is to find a job by next Saturday. I know my chances, but I also find other interns I work with have found jobs and the people I work with have jobs! So if they can, I can too!

Being an Intern

I’m going to be in the library for a while tomorrow. As a writing intern at publishing company and education website, I’m pretty busy Monday through Thursday. Luckily, I have this Wednesday off, so I’m making sure its productive.

Last Friday, I went to New York City to hang out with my friend Alva and run a 10K in Brooklyn.

I had the best time and now am in love with NYC. It’s so great. The trains were easy to get around on, once I figured it out and the people were full of energy. I enjoyed my stay and literally can’t wait to go back another weekend.

On Friday, I met Alva’s cool professor friend, his student and had Chipotle for the first time in two years. Alva showed me the Highline in Chelsea, took me to Shake Shack in the Theater District, her graduate school, NYU’s bookstore, and the coolest part was meeting actor Mark Ruffalo at Occupy Wall Street at Washington Square Park. We couldn’t stop talking about it after we met him, he had a strong handshake and was so handsome!!!!!!

We went to a sushi bar later that night, to a Starbucks where we met a amateur photographer and a Japanese woman who spoke fluent French and went to another bar, but I can’t remember its name.

On Sunday, I woke up at 8:25am and headed to Brooklyn. There at the 10K I saw someone I knew in college. It’s such a small world! I ran the race and after met Alva at CVS for the Mark Ruffalo picture. I lost my digital camera in Korea, so I took one of those cheap disposal cameras to document the trip. After that, I showered and we headed to this really great french place close by for brunch. Best French toast I’ve ever eaten!

Again, my trip was awesome. I even took a picture with Minnie Mouse and talked to this guy in tight green spandex suit (it literally went over his face–no eye, nose or mouth holes) while at Occupy Wall Street.

The pictures look very 1980s and have speckled white scratches on them. I have no idea what happened, but will ask CVS at home to do it over sometime soon.

1:02:25 Run

At the 10K run in Brooklyn, I saw a person I knew in college. What a small world! I did great finishing my first 10K at 1:14:53 with a 12:04 pace. It was super hot out there and many of the runners including myself, took walk breaks….

Today’s run, I couldn’t find my breath. I felt as though I was trudging along. And I didn’t feel runner’s high until well after 35 minutes. I was trying hard to get my body in sync with my mind. But then it became easy and I was in motion. I do enjoy that part of running so much.

Stats: 1:02:25, 5.25 miles, 11:53 pace

As I went down to the vending machine at my newly acquired internship, I saw that water cost more than soda! RIDICULOUS!

I used my last dollar and fifty to buy it. Next time, I’m bringing a water bottle!

OK, time for me to start packing for my New York City trip!!! I’m running my first 10K there on Sunday! So excited to see my friend I met in Korea, go to Koreatown and just hangout!!! Woo hoo!

52:37 Run in Texas

Went running with my college friend, Laura, in Austin. I came to visit her for the weekend. Running on trail is a lot harder than I thought! And to think we ran a long time and our miles were really short! But I’m really glad I went out. We ran to the Farmer’s Market, drank some really awesome lemonade mint tea/coconut water ice and went to Whole Foods. Austin is really sunny, but so far a lot of fun.

54:14 Run

I want to blame todays okay run on the weather of 72 degrees and 94% humidity. I only went about 2.2 miles before turning around and then it started to rain. I told myself that I would run home and I’m glad I accomplished one goal today. Today’s run– six minutes away from an hour. Perhaps I’ll get there this week now I know what kind of weather to expect. 50+ minutes isn’t so bad, what matters is that I went out there and finished!

Even though it was a straight route, it wasn’t the most scenic. I was bored after twenty minutes. Time for a new route where there’s more to see than house after house after house.

51:23 Run

I fought with myself today. Maybe it was the humidity? I ended my run nine minutes short of an hour. I’m getting bored with my 14th street and 16th street runs… Time for something I haven’t seen almost everyday I’ve been home. Time to run a little earlier too. If I am to get a job, I’ll have to make sure I have enough time for the run, shower, breakfast and time to get to work!

There were no runners for a good ten minutes of my run. It’s always nice when it’s quiet like that. Just you and the earth… Anyways, I’ve got to keep up my one hour a day run. It’s the only way I’ll be able to master 7 miles on Saturday…. I felt as though I was being lazy not having finished the entire hour, but then I wanted to get ready for my morning interview for an internship…I’ve got to get going. Punctuality is important.

Stats: 51:23, 4.25 miles, 12:05 pace
